Javier Mascherano has revealed he hopes to sign a new deal at Liverpool 'in the next few weeks'.
The Argentina international has been locked in talks with the club for a couple of months over a contract extension at Anfield.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez is keen to secure the long-term future of the midfielder and Mascherano insists he is happy to stay on Merseyside.
"The club are talking with my agents," Mascherano told the club's official website.
"I don't like to be involved in the contract meetings so I leave that to my agents and the people at the club.
"Liverpool know I want to stay. I don't think it will be difficult to arrive at a deal and we will see what happens in the next few weeks."
Mascherano was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona last summer and there has been fresh speculation he could move on if Liverpool fail to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.
However, 25-year-old sees his future at Anfield and has rejected claims he was looking to depart.
"I have never said I was not happy at Liverpool. That was the press," added Mascherano.
"I am happy here and the only way I can show that is with my performances on the pitch.
"I always try to do everything I can to help my team-mates and manager.
"Sometimes I can do well and sometimes I can't, but I always look to give 100 per cent in training and in games."
