Javier Mascherano today urged his teammates not to let their efforts against Manchester United go to waste when Premier League duty resumes this weekend.
Liverpool's midfield dynamo will miss tomorrow night's Carling Cup tie at Arsenal through suspension but will be refreshed for Saturday's trip to face Fulham.
The Reds are now looking forward to that tussle at Craven Cottage, rather than viewing it with trepidation, after flattening United 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday.
That victory has restored belief and given Rafa Benitez's squad a fresh impetus but Mascherano is refusing to see it as a signal to start making bold predictions.
He would much rather wait to see how Liverpool fare against Fulham, but hopes beating United will be the spark that ignites the remainder of their campaign.
"We're now six points behind Chelsea and we need to go to Wednesday's game against Arsenal and try to keep going in the Carling Cup," said Mascherano. "Then it's off to Fulham on Saturday and to do the same there. We know beating the likes of United is important for the confidence. But it's just three points.
"It does send out a message to the other teams, though. Maybe people have thought we couldn't play as well as we can against the top sides. But we've shown that we can.
"If we want these three points to be of value, we have to show this kind of performance in the future. It was difficult for us, losing four games in a row.
"That's why we had to start again. Now we have won and we cannot stop. We have to keep this going. We have a good squad and we are pulling together."
