Mata could be on his way to Anfield

Highly rated Valencia winger Juan Mata could well be on his way to England this summer according to SkySports' Spanish correspondent Guillem Balague.

Liverpool, Manchester United and neighbours City are all known to be interested in securing Mata's services, and have all reportedly been in touch with the player's representative.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is in the market for wide midfield additions and has earmarked Mata as a top summer target as reported by the journalist's website GuillemBalague.com.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has visited the Mestalla to run the rule over the 23-year-old starlet ahead of a proposed summer switch to Anfield.

Mata's contract contains a €60million buy-out clause, but it is unlikely that either Liverpool or the respective Manchester clubs would be willing to pay that, with a €25-30million thought to be the figure needed to secure his services.

Valencia are currently in a precarious financial situation, with the La Liga club servicing debts in the region of €500million.

The debt is said to be manageable providing Valencia qualify for the Champions League, but they will still need to repay at least €20million a year in interest.

With that in mind, Los Che may be forced to sell yet again this summer, with leading names such as Mata following in the footsteps of David Villa and David Silva out of the door.

Mata's father, Juan Mata Snr, who acts as his son's agent recently confirmed:

"I still get calls from many agents in England but we are calm. If we get an offer in writing then we will take it to Valencia and let them decide."

With Liverpool expected to further enhance their attacking options when the transfer window reopens in June, Anfield will be prepared for a busy summer as the playing squad continues to rebuild ahead of the new season.
