Liverpool are set to face competition for the signature of Basel winger Mohamed Salah from Premier League rivals Newcastle, according to reports.
The Magpies are said to be the latest club keen on a move for the highly-rated Egyptian, who continues to impress on the European stage for the Swiss side.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Salah since the summer, with the Reds believed to be readying a £10m bid.
However Basel value the 21-year-old at around £16m, leaving room for Newcastle to swoop in with an offer which meets expectations.
Alan Pardew's men did the bulk of their 2013 buying in January as they fought to stave off relegation from the Premier League.
And despite most reports suggesting the Magpies could be losing players rather than gaining them this time around, Pardew could yet delve into the transfer market before the end of the month.
