Metro: Reds race for striker swoop

Liverpool are still hopeful of landing Villarreal's in-demand striker Luciano Vietto - despite the player revealing he wants to sign for Barcelona.

The Reds have been tracking the 21-year-old hotshot all season and will attempt to push through a deal this summer while the Nou Camp giants are under a transfer ban.

The Argentine has been in fine form in La Liga this term - bagging 12 goals in 26 appearances for The Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal would be reluctant sellers should Liverpool firm up their interest in Vietto and could demand as much as £24million for the player.
