Liverpool are thought to be closing in on a move for Mohamed Salah after boss Brendan Rodgers watched the Basel star in action on Wednesday.
Salah couldn't help Basel to a place in the last 16, with his side losing 2-0 to Schalke in Germany.
But even if the Swiss side had made it into Monday's draw, the 21-year-old may not be around in January to have participated further anyway, with Liverpool among a clutch of clubs trailing the youngster.
Spurs are also believed to be in the hunt for the winger, but the Reds are now thought to be leading the chase following Rodgers' personal scouting mission this week.
Liverpool are said to be preparing a £12m January bid for the Egyptian, but Basel may hold out for a fee closer to £15m.
Salah has impressed in this season's Champions League, scoring home and away against Chelsea, against whom he also netted in last season's Europa League.
