Liverpool's UEFA Champions League hopes have been handed a boost with the news Fiorentina star Adrian Mutu will miss their final two games in Europe.
Former Chelsea ace Mutu faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury.
Mutu sustained the knee problem during the midweek Champions League win over Debrecen and he has been forced to go under the knife to resolve the problem.
The injury will rule Mutu out for a month and means he will miss the crucial clash against Lyon and the final group game against Liverpool.
Liverpool need Lyon to get a result against Fiorentina later this month to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stage and news of Mutu's absence will be welcomed by Rafa Benitez's men.
