Liverpool have agreed a £1 million deal to sign Sporting Lisbon teenager Joao Carlos Teixeira.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder was part of the Sporting Lisbon side that took part in the NextGen series - a Champions League-style tournament for a selection of youth teams from across Europe.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is said to have paid particular attention to the competition, and was impressed by Carlos' performances.
The Primeira Liga club has a reputation for producing some outstanding footballers, including Real Madrid stars past and present Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as the latter's replacement on the Manchester United wing, Nani.
Sporting have financial issues and have therefore decided to accept Liverpool's modest offer, which may prove to be a bargain as the teenager is already drawing comparisons with Brazilian-born Portuguese international Deco, despite not yet making his debut for the senior team.
He has, however, represented Portugal at Under-19 level.
