Liverpool are hot favourites to land exciting Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez, according to reports in Italy.
The Merseysiders have been tracking the 20-year-old for some time but face stiff competition from Premiership rivals Man Utd and Man City, as well as other top European clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, Italian-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that it's Liverpool who have made the first move to snap up the Uruguayan ace and are now leading the race for his signature.
Ramirez was heavily linked with a summer move away from Italy with interest from all over Europe, but a move failed to materialise and the Serie A outfit have since persuaded Ramirez to sign a contract extension which now runs until 2016. This has strengthened Bologna's bargaining position and it's now expected that it will require a fee well in excess of £15m to land the South American star.
Liverpool are confident that they will be able to persuade Ramirez to come to Anfield and link up with fellow countrymen Luis Suarez and Seb Coates.
