Liverpool could turn their attentions to Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge after failing to land Leighton Baines from Everton.
The red half of Merseyside were hoping to prise Baines away from the blue half, but Everton boss David Moyes was not interested so they have turned their attentions elsewhere.
Bridge is further down the pecking order then ever at City, after they signed Gael Clichy from Arsenal, so he is almost certain to move away from the club in order to get first team football.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is after a left-back as Paul Konchesky and Fabio Aurelio do not fit the bill so a move for Bridge, who spent half of last season on loan at West Ham, looks to be on the cards.
City will allow him to move for a nominal fee but his wages, reportedly £90,000 a week, may prove to be a problem for the Reds.
