When it comes to Europe you have to back Rafa Benitez, writes Tommy Smith.
I have been saying for some time that in the Champions League there are few better managers.
A magnificent victory and beaten finalists in his Anfield spell underlines his credentials when it comes to Europe's premier competition.
Performances such as against Inter Milan showed that the Reds can step up their game for the big occasions.
But will tonight's clash be a "European" affair against Arsenal or a "Premier" type confrontation?
Our record in league games against the top three is not good but, when it comes to Europe as in our clashes when we disposed of Chelsea twice we appear to be a totally different side.
The Gunners were exceptional earlier this season and looked likely title winners, but their form in recent months has not been as good. Against Bolton, they looked vulnerable at 2-0 early on, but credit to them for fighting back to win.
It's going to be a hectic six days with three games against the Gunners.
One has to be realistic, so I would be happy with a draw tonight, accept a draw (at best) on Saturday, and then win the second leg to go through to the semi-finals!
All I hope is that it's the Reds' Euro team that turns up for these important clashes not the Old Trafford one.
The Reds will be up for the battle, especially on the back of a fourth place derby-winning boost, and with Javier Mascherano returning that will provide a backbone for the midfield (he just needs to put a plaster over his mouth in case he gets too excited!).
Benitez will be conscious of the fact that a good result at the Emirates does not automatically guarantee progress AC Milan found that out to their cost so the Reds need to be at their best in both Euro games.
Over to you, Rafa.
