Wanted French star Alexandre Lacazette has revealed he turned down the opportunity to join Everton this season with reports suggesting he is holding out for an offer from Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The striker has emerged as one of the rising talents in France this season after netting 14 goals in 29 Ligue 1 appearances at Lyon, causing the Premier League to take note and prepare summer bids for the 22-year-old.
Speaking this week, Lacazette revealed Everton had made a move for him but he turned it down because he is happy at Lyon, although reports in France say there may have been an ulterior motive to the decision, the Express reports.
"Everton? They wanted me but I did not want to leave," he told Telefoot.
"For now I am very happy here and there is no reason for me to leave. "I didn't want to move."
French reports say Lacazette is looking for a deal with Liverpool, or Newcastle United who are also interested should they fail to keep Loic Remy at the end of the season, and hopes his performances will be enough to be handed a more appealing offer in the summer, the article reveals.
His decision may prove costly with Everton fighting for a Champions League place in the Premier league at present.
