Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is ready to fight his former club Liverpool to land Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.

The 22-year-old's Nou Camp contract is up at the end of the season and he is yet to agree a new deal with Barcelona officials.

Liverpool have identified the Spaniard as a possible long-term replacement for Glen Johnson and their managing director Ian Ayre flew to Catalonia at the end of last month to discuss a possible deal.

But it appears that the Reds' chief has more work to do, with Montoya set to receive rival offers from a trio of Serie A clubs.

Sources in Italy claim the full-back's agent will jet out to Italy this week to meet officials from Napoli, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
