Liverpool face competition from Fiorentina in the race to sign Villarreal's Mateo Musacchio.

talkSPORT revealed Brendan Rodgers' interest in the central defender last month.

But they are not the only admirers of the Argentine, who now tops the transfer wishlist of Florence's Serie A side.

Musacchio, who has also been watched by Barcelona, claims he is happy at Villarreal where he has been a key player this season, while his agent is leaving every option open.

Agent Marcelo Lombilla told reporters in Italy: "We have heard of Fiorentina's interest, but the truth is that the club has not contacted me about Mateo.

"At this time we are not talking about him in connection with them or even any other club in the Premier League."

The centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and would be available on a free.
