Japan star Keisuke Honda could leave CSKA Moscow - opening the door to a possible move to Liverpool or Borussia Dortmund.
Honda rose to prominence following his displays for Dutch side VVV-Venlo, as well as his goals for Japan at the 2010 World Cup.
CSKA had previously stated their intention to keep hold of the midfielder, but reports in Italy claim he could be on his way out of Moscow.
Liverpool, long-term admirers of the 26-year-old, could revive their interest, especially after Brendan Rodgers admitted that his other midfielders need to relieve the goalscoring burden on captain Steven Gerrard.
On-loan Turkey international Nuri Sahin is the only other midfielder who has scored in the Premier League this term.
But the Reds could be rivalled by Borussia Dortmund, who are thought to be on the hunt for a replacement for Honda's international team-mate Shinji Kagawa, who moved to Manchester United in the summer.
