Liverpool remain the most likely club to sign Danny Ings when the striker's contract at Burnley runs out at the end of this season - but the 22-year-old has already received some astronomical offers from clubs around Europe.
Relations between the two clubs remain very good with a will from both parties, despite the growing interest in Ings, to get a deal done even if it means going to a tribunal to set the compensation fee, which appears likely. And also appears set to be a record.
Clearly Ings's head may be turned by some of the huge amounts he is being offered by European clubs who can capitalise on an anomaly that gives them a significant and unfair advantage in negotiations.
If Ings joins a non-English club the compensation package is minimal - just €90,000 (£66,000) a season to Burnley for every season he spent at his current club.
Ings will have been at Turf Moor for three years, therefore Burnley would receive just €270,000 (£197,000).
To put that in context, David Moyes's Real Sociedad, who flew Ings out to Spain, are believed to have already offered him £60,000 a week plus a big signing-on fee. So, that means Ings would earn in less than a month what Burnley would receive for his sale.
Similarly, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke are tracking Ings closely and sent scouts to watch him play in England's U21 international against Germany at the Riverside last Monday.
Nevertheless Liverpool are hopeful that he will sign for them.
