EVERYONE knows the Carling Cup is not Liverpools main priority, writes Ian Rush.
The most important thing for the Reds this time around is to have a proper crack at the league title because its been far too long since it last happened.
The Carling Cup would probably be regarded as the least important competition for Liverpool but that doesnt mean it can be disregarded altogether.
Im sure Rafa Benitez will introduce a few of his fringe players and this is an opportunity for them to stake their claim for a first team place.
Also, if you win the competition it gives you a place in Europe in early spring and that can give even the biggest clubs a safety blanket for the rest of the season.
But, most importantly, the Liverpool fans will be travelling to London in their usual magnificent numbers and the very least they deserve is a fully committed performance from the players.
The last time Liverpool went to White Hart Lane in the Carling Cup Benitez fielded a largely second string line up and they still managed to win the game so a repeat of that tonight would be fantastic.
