Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei is training with English Premier League club Liverpool.
The MLS team said Sunday they granted the Swiss 'keeper permission to train with Liverpool and that the 25-year-old left for the U.K. earlier in the week.
Frei made 27 league appearances this season - his third with Toronto FC. He earned six shutouts, but took a back seat towards the season's end as backup Milos Kocic earned starts by impressing TFC's staff.
"This is a great opportunity for Stefan and we were happy to give him permission to train with a historic club like Liverpool," said Toronto's head coach Aron Winter in a statement.
"He has emerged as one of the top keepers in the league since the start of his career and has certainly earned this special opportunity."
Frei is expected to conclude the training on December 18.
