Valencia winger targeted

Liverpool are interested in bringing Valencia winger Pablo Hernandez to Anfield in the January transfer window.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson is already drawing up a list of targets to bolster his squad after claiming just one win from seven matches played.

Hodgson feels that there is a lack of natural width in his team, and has pinpointed touchline-hugging Hernandez as the solution to this problem.

It is unlikely that coach Unai Emery would be interested in parting company with the Spanish international, who was the subject of an approach from big-spending Manchester City in the summer, but the Citizens ultimately opted to sign David Silva instead.

Liverpool have already brought in a host of midfielders so far, with the former Fulham boss signing Joe Cole, Christian Poulsen and Raul Meireles, but Hodgson feels that area of the pitch requires further additions.

The former Getafe winger moved to the Mestalla in 2008 for a fee of €1m, and has been a popular signing for Los Che, with four years remaining on his current contract.
