Cristian Zapata has claimed that he is on the verge of joining Liverpool - but Sylvain Marveaux's Anfield dream could be over after he failed his Reds' medical.

Cristian Zapata said: "I do not know what to say, I can say that I am very close to Liverpool."

Rennes midfielder Marveaux's groin problems left Liverpool doctors unimpressed on Thursday.
