Goalkeeper Charlie Ashcroft joined Liverpool during the second World War.

Cyril Sidlow was first-choice custodian until the 1950-51 season. Russell Crossley initially replaced Sidlow, but Ashcroft played for the final part of the campaign.

Ashcroft became first-choice the following season, but had to share first-team duties with Crossley in the 1952-53 season.

Aschcroft managed to play 15 games in his final season despite battling with fellow goalkeepers Dave Underwood and Doug Rudham for the position.
