Alf Arrowsmith arrived at Anfield as a fresh 17-year-old. A year later his name was on everybody's lips at Anfield because he couldn't stop scoring for the reserves. Arrowsmith netted no less than 65 goals between 1961-1963.
His breakthrough into the first team arrived in the latter part of the championship winning 1963-64 season, when he scored 18 goals in 23 games.
Roger Hunt, Ian St. John and Arrowsmith contributed a massive 67 League goals that season as Liverpool powered to their first League championship for 17 years.
That was as good as it got for Alf, who only made a further 19 starts (plus four as substitute) over the next four seasons.
He finally left Liverpool to join Bury in December 1968. He was described as a born goalscorer by Shankly but was unlucky with injuries.
