Son of former Liverpool wing-half, Roy, Dean was expected to take Anfield by storm when he arrived from Derby for a record fee in July 1991.

However, the Wales international didn't quite live up to his reputation in a Reds side whose passing game didn't seem to suit him. He was used to Derby's counter-attacking style, scoring many of his goals for the Rams by using his exceptional pace. 

Just 61 games and 25 goals later he was sold to Aston Villa, where he returned to haunt the Reds within nine days of leaving, scoring two goals in a 4-2 Villa victory.
