Julian Dicks has the claim to fame of being the last Liverpool player to score a goal in front of the standing Kop, when he netted a penalty during a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, on April 9, 1994.
Graeme Souness wanted to add steel to Liverpool's defence, and in his last Anfield transfer as manager, swooped to sign Dicks from West Ham.
However, Dicks struggled for fitness at the Reds and returned to the Hammers after only one season.
Julian's second spell at West Ham saw him score 21 goals in 103 League matches and he was the club's joint-top League goalscorer in the 1995-96 season.
West Ham finished in 10th place that season, their highest final position for a decade, but the following campaign they again struggled against relegation with Dicks scoring twice in a crucial 4-3 home win over London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur.
A knee injury meant that he did not play at all in 1997-98 and in only nine Premier League matches in the 1998-99 season, at the end of which he announced his retirement as a professional player after fourteen years at the relatively young age of thirty.
Dicks made a brief return to the game in 2001 when he signed for non-League Canvey Island but only made four appearances for the Essex club.
He became a publican in Essex for a while before moving to Spain; but he returned to the non-League scene in January 2009 when he was appointed manager of another Essex club, Wivenhoe Town.
Wivenhoe were playing in the Eastern Counties League Premier League after being relegated from the Isthmian League Division One North. However, shortly after the end of the 2008-09 season, Dicks left the club by mutual consent.
