Anyone who was awarded a penalty against Clyde wasn't too optimistic as Willie Donnelly faced 21 penalties in the Clyde goal and saved 19!
Donnelly was Liverpool's reserve goalkeeper during the 1896-97 season. Harry Storer was Anfield's first-choice at the time and figured in 23 of the 30 First Division matches that season.
Storer played in the first 19 games from August up to and including Christmas Day 1896 but, Donnelly took over on Boxing Day at Burnley and played in six consecutive fixtures before Storer was recalled to take the No. 1 jersey again.
Donnelly finished his career in his native Ireland with Belfast Celtic
