A centre half, who is a USA youth international, Zak Whitbread moved to England aged two. The blond American was on the 2003 pre-season tour, without making an appearance, but in the 2004 pre-season tour of Canada and USA he was finally given a chance. He was loaned out to Millwall in the 2005-2006 season where he played 27 games. They were impressed enough and new Millwall boss and former Liverpool player, Nigel Spackman, decided to make his move permanent.
