Fernando Torres believes La Liga must adapt the way it schedules fixtures in order to match the global appeal of the Barclays Premier League.
Spanish official are considering introducing earlier kick-off times to make it easier for football fans across the globe to tune in.
Torres has backed the idea, saying: "La Liga is already lagging behind in not playing matches at 3pm.
"The Premier League has the best media profile in the world. Part of that success is down to the times of the matches which means they can be watched all around the world, especially in Asia and the Middle East."
La Liga games involving Real Madrid and Barcelona often kick-off at 10pm Spanish time (4am in Beijing).
Meanwhile, Torres believes the prospect of being favourites in next summer's World Cup may not do Spain any favours.
He points to their shock Confederations Cup exit to USA as proof of what happens when expectations get too high.
He explained: "Well I don't think that's best for us. We did better at the European Championships when were in the running, but nothing more.
"If anything, the Confederations Cup helped us realise that if you have a bad day at the World Cup, you can be on your way home.
"And it need not be against a World Cup winning team. All the countries that make the finals are capable of causing an upset."
