Fernando Torres has reiterated his unquenchable thirst to win trophies with Liverpool.
The Spain international scored the winning goal as his country triumphed at Euro 2008 but he has yet to pick up any silverware since arriving at Anfield.
He admits the lack of club honours is a source of frustration for him and is determined to put it right by helping to fire Rafael Benitez's men to glory this season.
"It is so important for me to get a medal with Liverpool," said Torres. "I have won top honours with Spain now, and yes, there is a desperation to win a trophy for the fans at Liverpool. I know how important it is not just to me but for them.
"When I came here I was looking for those trophies and my target is exactly the same now, but even stronger. I am thinking this is the season.
"The title is a real target because Liverpool must always think about winning trophies. It is very difficult because some teams are very strong but we have to think about ourselves.
"I know after winning the European Championship with Spain exactly how you can feel after winning a major trophy, and I know that if we can win at Liverpool it will feel the same or even better than it did with Spain."
At the age of 25 Torres still has plenty of time on his side. His desire to notch up a medal collection to rival some of the games' greats is clear for all to see, but he accepts he may need to be patient.
"I am still waiting for a major trophy at club level, and I want one, but I am still young - I am just 25," he said. "I was talking with Carlos Puyol at Barcelona some years ago and he said he was 23-24 at Barcelona and hadn't won a single trophy, but now he has plenty of them.
"Puyol told me to be patient, he said that you are at a massive club and you will win trophies eventually. I don't know if it will be soon, but if you have patience and you keep thinking that you can do it then it definitely will arrive."
With eight goals already to his name this season, Torres is enjoying life in England. But it is isn't just his performances on the pitch that are beginning to click into gear, he is more than happy off it too.
"I'm really relaxed here," he said. "In Liverpool, I can do almost everything I want to do. I can walk in the park, or to Albert Dock. The people recognise you but they have a lot of respect for a player, so the quality of life is the main thing for me.
"I don't know why but I feel like one of the people here. They recognise me and wish me luck but in Spain they surround you and you can't do anything.
"I think they're happy with me and I hope to win trophies and give them everything I can in return."
Torres' bid to help the Reds secure title glory this season will be put to the test when Liverpool visit Chelsea on Sunday.
The Reds striker has only featured once in five Stamford Bridge meetings since he arrived on Merseyside - a Champions League semi-final clash in which he scored.
Should he start this weekend, he hopes to make an impact that can help the Reds continue their recent good form against the other so-called 'big four' sides.
"Last season we won at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford because we really believed in ourselves and played as a team," he said. "We have to do the same.
"If you can beat Chelsea away then you know you can beat any team in England and in Europe. We need to win these kind of games to be stronger."
He added: "I have to play better this season.
"I always think I can play better, whether I've scored two or three goals or not. A player should always think about how he can improve.
"I want to be in the top goalscorers' list this season and I want Liverpool to finish at the top of the league this season.
"It hasn't been difficult for me to live up to the expectation, even though I have done well in my first two seasons in England. I know that creates more expectation, but I always want to do better than the season before."
