Liverpool are set to step up their interest in Basel winger Mohamed Salah but could have to pay as much as £12million.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been chasing the talented 21-year-old for some time but reports claim he is ready to make a formal bid to land the player this week.
Basel are keen to keep hold of Salah, who caught the eye when scoring against Chelsea in the Champions League this season, but after they failed to make it through the group stages, they are fighting a losing battle.
However, the Swiss champions are holding out for as much as possible and want a fee in the region of £12million, while Liverpool are only willing to go as high as £7million.
Liverpool will open with that kind of figure but they may have to compromise or move on to other targets ahead of the transfer deadline.
