Liverpool and Manchester United are targeting Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng in this summer's transfer window, Express reports.
According to German newspaper Bild, the German international is one of Brendan Rodger's main targets to shore up his defence, with Manchester United David Moyes also showing interest.
Boateng was a Manchester City player for a season before leaving in July 2011, where he has been very successful at Bayern Munich.
However luring the 25-year-old could be extremely difficult, as he has just extended his contract with the German champions until 2018.
"I am happy," Boateng said. "FC Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in world football. I want to achieve more success here."
Rodgers has also been looking at Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole along with Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic in his objective to keep Liverpool challenging for the title next year.
