Emiliano Insua has today edged closer to a move away from Liverpool after holding talks with Fiorentina.
New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson confirmed the long-standing rumour that the Argentina full-back could be headed to Italy, saying talks between player and club were in motion before his appointment.
Although Hodgson has admitted to being impressed with the 21-year-old, he is unsure as to where the former Boca Juniors player's future lies.
"I saw him play in the last three days and I like him both as a player and on a personal level," said Hodgson.
"However, talks with Fiorentina started before I got here, so I don't know how advanced they are.
"I cannot say if Insua will stay at Liverpool or not. I'll have to discuss that with the club."
Signed in 2007, Insua was given more first team opportunities than anticipated last season after the injury to Fabio Aurelio but failed to reach the performance levels many hoped for.
Insua would eventually lose his starting place towards the end of the season and is now on the verge of sealing a move rumoured to be worth £5m to Liverpool.
