Italian football website Calciomercato.com claims that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Fiorentina winger Juan Manuel Vargas after the player impressed in this season's Champions League.
The website claims that Liverpool are keen to approach their Italian counterparts about the availability of the Peruvian international after the club's continental scouting network identified Vargas as a worthy target.
The 26-year-old moved to Fiorentina in 2008 after impressing during a two year stint with Catania and has since consolidated his reputation with a series of dynamic performances this season. Vargas helped set up the winner for Alberto Gilardino for La Viola against Liverpool at Anfield earlier in the season and scored in the last round of the Champions League against Bayern Munich before the Gigliati finally tumbled from the tournament after Arjen Robben's 30-yard rocket secured an away goals victory for the Bundesliga outfit.
It is assumed that any possible move for Vargas will be dependent on Liverpool's race for European football next season.
