Liverpool are hoping to beat off competition from Spanish side Real Betis as they look to secure the signature of Sochaux attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz.
Spanish newspaper Marca today revealed that Betis have also been tracking the 21-year-old and are hoping to land him by offering him guaranteed first team football.
Betis currently find themselves lying in 12th place in the league, while Liverpool will hope they can persuade Boudebouz to choose Anfield as they push for a place in Europe next season.
The Reds have had a steady start to the season and currently lie in sixth place with just two league defeats in their 11 games this season.
Liverpool are hoping to convince the attacking midfielder to leave the club in January and have sent director of football Damien Comolli to Sochaux on a number of occasions.
Comolli is a known admirer of the midfielder and has reportedly already held talks with Sochaux officials as they attempt to bring the Algeria international to the club.
Earlier this year Boudebouz admitted that there had been contact and that he held the club in high regards. "Liverpool are a big club and there has been contact."
It is believed that Souchaux would demand as much as £14million for the midfielder, a figure that is line with Liverpool's recent spending, especially concerning young players.
