Liverpool are hoping to secure a summer double swoop after holding talks with Standard Liege's Milan Jovanovic and Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh.
Reds officials have offered the 28-year-old a three-year deal with the option of a 12-month extension to move to Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the season with Morrocan hitman Chamakh also being offered a similar deal.
Rafael Benitez is hoping that a swift move for Jovanovic, who is now eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement, will put paid to advances by AC Milan, Birmingham City and Liverpool's bitter local rivals Everton, who are both keen to add the Belgian Player of the Year to their ranks.
The Spaniard is hoping a deal worth £10 million over three years is enough to tempt the Serbia international to Merseyside and is also hoping to win the race for Chamakh's signature but is expected to prove more difficult Premier League rivals Arsenal still favourites to secure his services.
