Officials from both Merseyside soccer clubs, Liverpool FC and Everton FC, will sit down today to discuss the two clubs' new stadium plans, joining a summit with the city council, the North West Development Agency and Liverpool University.
The university is expected to be asked to carry out a feasibility study into a number of options, according to the Liverpool Echo. This could include the possibility of Liverpool and Everton sharing a ground - an option that directors of both clubs have indicated privately is favourable, but which has met with opposition amongst many fans and has been publically dismissed by Liverpool.
More acceptable to fans of the Reds and the Toffees could be fans' group Keep Everton in Our City's plans for a 'Football Quarter'. KEIOC issued a statement last month pointing to the fact that an astonishing 27 league titles and numerous other trophies have been brought back to Liverpool's Anfield and Everton's Goodison Park, situated just a short distance apart across Stanley Park. KEIOC's proposal would see stadium redevelopment funded by the building of a hotel and other developments in the Stanley Park area.
NWDA chief executive Steve Broomhead told the Liverpool Echo: "We welcome the meeting. People are beginning to look at the opportunities again. Both clubs need solutions, either singly or jointly."
