After being linked with Inter Milan's Mateo Kovacic, Liverpool appear set to continue their dalliance with Serie A as they eye Roma's Miralem Pjanic.
Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, is understood to have already met Roma's director of football Walter Sabatini to discuss the midfielder's future and will be buoyed by reports in Italy saying the 24-year-old is ready to end his four-year stay at the Olympic Stadium.
One sticking point for the Merseysiders, though, may be the transfer fee wanted by the Italians: £37million.
Reports in Spain are saying that Martín Montoya, the Barcelona defender, is ready to leave the Nou Camp with Liverpool the favourites to sign the 23-year-old.
After struggling to find first-team opportunities and having made just six starts this season, Montoya appears to have lost patience and could be joining Rodgers at Anfield next season.
Montoya has been on Rodgers's transfer radar for the past 18 months and the Northern Irishman is understood to be ready to make a bid for the Spaniard.
