Memorial
April 15 1989 will forever be etched on the minds of everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club. It was a day when 96 supporters attended a football match and never came home.
We have given great consideration to the Hillsborough Memorial, working with the families to create a fitting location and setting within the design of the expanded Main Stand and surrounding public area.
While construction work is ongoing, the Hillsborough Memorial will remain in safe storage. A specially commissioned Temporary Memorial is located at the entrance of the Centenary Stand where families, friends, supporters and visitors can continue to pay their respects.
The Eternal Flame from the Hillsborough Memorial has been transferred to Liverpool Cathedral where it will reside during this temporary period.
When construction is complete, the Hillsborough Memorial will then move to its new location, in a specially designed colonnade, accessible from the Main Stand.
