LIVERPOOL defender Emiliano Insua has revealed his delight at being called up into the Argentina squad for the first time.
The Reds left-back is relishing the chance to play under legend Diego Maradona and is hoping to help his nation secure qualification for next summer's World Cup finals.
Argentina are currently in danger of missing out on the trip to South Africa and they face a crunch double-header at home to Peru on October 10 and away to Uruguay four days later.
Insua will travel with team-mate Javier Mascherano and his call-up is reward for his impressive form for the Reds so far this season.
"It is very special," Insua said.
"Argentina are fighting for their place in the World Cup and I want to help my country get there. I am very happy.
"Everyone knows how good Maradona was as a player, so it will be fantastic for me to play under him as a coach.
"I hope we can make it to South Africa and would love to play my part."
Insua celebrated news of his call-up with another accomplished performance for Liverpool in Saturday's 6-1 thrashing of Hull.
The 20-year-old watched in admiration as Fernando Torres grabbed a hat-trick.
"He is one of the best strikers in the world," Insua said. "It is incredible to play with him. He is a great player but he is also a great person too. I enjoy playing alongside him - I wouldn't want to play against him.
"In the first half it was more difficult for us because Hull tried to press high. It was easier in the second half. We played more freely and scored a lot of goals."
Meanwhile, young Reds defender Martin Kelly played the full 90 minutes as England lost 1-0 to Uruguay in the Under-20 World Cup on Saturday.
